PINELLAS COUNTY, FL – The Pinellas County Tax Collector’s office is joining forces with Florida non-profit, Lauren’s Kids, this March to help spread awareness and raise funds for sexual abuse prevention.

Lauren's Kids Specialty License Plate

During March, customers visiting a tax collector office can support Laruen’s Kids by purchasing the Lauren’s Kids specialty license plate or making a monetary donation. Those who donate will receive a special thank-you gift from Lauren’s Kids. Customers who switch to the specialty plate this month will be entered into a drawing for a $25 Visa or American Express gift card presented by the Lauren’s Kids organization.

Founded by former State Senator Lauren Book in 2007, Lauren’s Kids empowers children and families to prevent and overcome the trauma of sexual abuse. Book’s own experiences as a childhood sexual abuse survivor fueled her mission to protect children through education and prevention programs and help other survivors to heal.

Sexual abuse is an uncomfortable topic – but it’s something that can happen to anyone – regardless of culture, religion, or social and economic status. The facts are staggering - 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys will be sexually abused in the United States before they turn 18. Today, in the U.S., there are more than 42 million childhood sexual abuse survivors. Through proper education and resources, 95% of sexual abuse is preventable.

“Our team is proud to join the fight with Lauren’s Kids to end child sexual abuse,” said Pinellas County Tax Collector Adam Ross. “Protecting children starts in our communities, and this organization gives us the tools to help victims and spread awareness.”

Each year, the tax collector’s office supports various Florida non-profits, chosen from applications submitted based on the organization’s mission and local impact.  Lauren’s Kids is the second non-profit they are supporting for 2026.
